Shake Shack (SHAK) will release its first quarter financial results after markets close today; management will host a conference call to review those results beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Currently, S&P Capital IQ Consensus calls for the company to report a loss on EPS of $(0.01) and revenues of $145.31 mln, representing growth of circa +9.6% yr/yr.

The company topped consensus for EPS in three of the last four quarters and reported an in-line result in the remaining one.

In March, Shake Shack withdrew its FY20 guidance. Should the company offer new FY20 guidance, it will compare to current S&P Capital IQ Consensus expectations for EPS of $(0.45) and revenues of $523.81 mln.

SHAK has a market value of about $1.8 bln.

RESULTS:

Shake Shack beats by $0.03, misses on revs, withdraws 2020 guidance; says some positive signs have begun to emerge

  • Reports Q1 (Mar) earnings of $0.02 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.03 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.01); revenues rose 8.0% year/year to $143.17 mln vs the $145.31 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.

    • Same-Shack sales decreased 12.8%, with approximately 2% decrease in fiscal February year-to-date, and approximately 29% decrease in fiscal March.

  • Co says despite the challenges, some positive signs have begun to emerge. Since the low point during the last week of the quarter, the Company has experienced steady increases in domestic sales driven by growth in its own digital channels and the expansion of its integrated delivery partnerships. The Company's licensed business is also starting to experience small signs of recovery with dining rooms re-opening in Korea, Hong Kong and mainland China in a limited capacity. However, there can be no assurance as to the time required to fully recover operations and sales to pre-pandemic levels.
